PROVEN SIBERIAN CHIFFCHAFFS (2017, 2019 & 2021)
- Pictures of tristis proven by mtDNA (De Knijff et al. 2012)
- Additional birds added proven by mtDNA (van der Spek & de Knijff 2021)
- Birds sampled for our DNA-project in Meijendel, Wassenaar, the Netherlands
- We can tell you what they look like in an article, but this way you can make up your own mind!
My ringing site in Meijendel, Wassenaar was the first to co-operate with "DNA professor" Peter de Knijff (Leiden University). Soon other sites joined the spectacular ride. Siberian and Scandinavian Chiffchaffs was what we were after. So far we have published two papers.
Photographs of Siberian Chiffchaffs and a single Scandinavian can be found below.

Notes: very interesting bird, with some yellow in the supercilium especially on the right); this bird certainly caused some debate! 1st photograph used in De Knijff et al (2012). High ISO values probably extracted some colour.
